Apple FaceTime Bug – Apple Slapped with Lawsuit Over Group FaceTime Bug – How to turn off app until it stops eavesdropping
Apple has temporarily disabled group face time because
apparently, an iphone facetime bug allowed anyone to call an iphone, ipad or
mac, and listen to the person they are calling before they pick up. We’re going
to tell you how you can protect your privacy while apple fixes the issue in
just a few seconds.
Apple is scrambling to fix this catastrophically bad bug
that could potentially result in law suits. Basically what you do is, you dial
someone, swipe up, insert the originating number by selecting add person before
the call is answered. Basically if you add yourself to a face time call before
the person you’re calling picks up, you can trick face time into thinking that
you’re already on an active call, a group face time conference call which
results in the transmission of audio before they have actually picked up your
call.
And the worst thing is, this bug even works if the person
doesn’t pick up, which is even worse. Imagine if your mom hearing you telling
your friend “Ugh my mom is being so annoying right now, I don’t want to answer her”.
Apple explain this as according to the verge, if the
recipient hits the power or the volume button to ignore the call, their device
will start sending audio, as well as video from its front facing camera, again
without any visual notification.
It was also said that the issue is more serious with mac computers.
They replicated the problem with an iphone calling a mac. By default, the mac
rings for longer than an iphone does, so it can act as a bug for even longer
duration.
How to turn off app until it stops eavesdropping?
For now, to fix the flaw, apple has disabled group face time,
which fixes the issue for most people but some people are still able to take
advantage of it.
An update is scheduled for iphone later this week, so while
apple fixes the servers, some people will still be eavesdropping. Until apple
fixes fix this, I would recommend disabling face time altogether.
On an iphone or ipad, go to settings > switch the face
time icon switch off and it will turn to grey instead of green.
On a mac, go to the face time app, click face time in the menu
bar, and then select turn off face time.
Group face time has experienced several problems since its
scheduled release in October of 2018.
Within the days of the release , there
was a lock screen security flaw, and now, apparently people can hear what you’re
saying before you answer their call.
According to reports, this issue has been happening for the
last 3 months. Again, the new update that fixes the problem should roll out
some time this week, so this shouldn’t be an issue for that much longer.
